Atomic Puzzler Vol. 3 No. 3
Answers
This puzzle introduced you to "fuel burn-up," showing how fuel used in a nuclear reactor changes after it has been "spent." The answers are:
1. After three years, 3% of the spent fuel is fission products and 1% is uranium-235.
2. In the spent fuel, there will be 0.4 tons of uranium-235, 1.2 tons of fission products, 37.6 tons of uranium-238, and 0.8 tons of plutonium isotopes.
Thanks for playing the Atomic Puzzler!
